Ice Skating Treadmills – Improve Hockey Performance
Hockey is the number one sport in Canada and it is no wonder that ice skating treadmills are being put to use in some of the Canadian training centres to help hockey players improve their skating techniques as well as their overall fitness. A skating treadmill is a device equipped with special plastic that hockey players can skate on to improve their skating stride, technique and gain exercise at the same time. They generally come equipped with cameras in the front as well as in the back, so that skaters can view their skating techniques after the skating session. The treadmill is made of sturdy metal to withstand the exertion that skaters will exhibit and the treadmill is also large enough to allow mature skaters to take long strides and increase their overall speed.
Once the skating session on the ice skating treadmill is finished, skaters can retire to their rooms with a CD to review their session on their PC’s or in the coaches office to discuss what can be adjusted to improve a skaters overall speed and agility. Various skating strategies can be developed and tested on the skating treadmill to evaluate which strategy will provide the most overall improvement in the skater’s abilities. After each session the coach and the skater can complete another review of the skater’s techniques until they are satisfied with the overall skating techniques.
The ice treadmill makes it much easier to complete this evaluation of the skater’s abilities since there are cameras to monitor every detail and coaches can replay the skater’s session on the treadmill to examine details as well as point out various issues they want to discuss with the skaters.
